In reading the article that describes the continual
evolution of the written communicated word, there are a couple things that
really stand out. Those being, 1) our forms of communication are
continuing to evolve as we invent new technology, although the message never
really changes, and 2) the message has become more clear and instantaneous
through delivery. As we have moved from scratching pictures on stone to
typing electronically in an email, our ability to clearly and concisely explain
our thoughts, emotions and experience has dramatically increased. Millions of years ago, if I was describing
how I narrowly avoided being eaten by a dinosaur through a series of pictures
scratched on stone, it would likely take a considerable amount of time to inscribe
and depend on my skill as an artist. Now, in wanting to capture the event
of narrowly avoiding being hit by a speeding taxi, I can use my iPhone to snap
a picture of the taxi, then quickly send an email out to my closest family and
friends from the same device. Now they
have a chance to read an archived piece of my life at almost the same time that
I experienced it, with the pictures and emotion included. This is definitely clearer and infinitely
faster.
